Baby Blanket Sally Ives, March 2002
Baby Blanket approximately 32" square each square is 4" worsted weight yarn in various colours: about 12oz of main colour (A), and 8oz of second colour (B) or bits of leftover yarn. I used a 5.5 mm hook for this project For each square: make 49 (or more for larger blanket) With colour B, ch 4, join to form ring. Rnd 1: ch3, 15dc in ring, join to top of ch 3. (16dc) Rnd 2: ch3, dc in same st. 2dc in each st, join to ch3. FO col B. Rnd 3: Worked in back loops only. Join A in any stitch. ch3, dc in next 6 sts. *(2tr, ch1, 2tr) in next st for corner, dc in 7 sts. Repeat from * around, work last corner, join to ch3. FO. Weave in ends. Join squares by stitching together through back loops, joining from ch1 space to ch1 space inclusive. When all squares are assembled, work border: Rnd 1: With colA, join in any st. Work dc around (including in each ch1 space) and remembering to work 5dc in each corner space. Join, FO colA. Rnd 2: Join colB in any corner st. ch1, 3sc in same st. Sc around, working 3sc in each corner st. Join to first sc. Rnd 3: Ch1, *(sc,ch2,sc) in same st for corner. [Sk 2 sts, work shell in next (shell=7dc). Sk 2 sts, sc in next] to next corner. Repeat from * around. Join, FO. Weave in ends.
For this blanket, I used a variegated green/yellow/white yarn for some squares, and spring/baby green for others to form a simple design in the centre of the afghan. The border is spring/baby green, though both pictures do NOT show the colour well.
