Great recycling idea: From plastic pint basket to....gift basket!
Basket #1 (Bubbles)

Materials:
plastic pint size basket (shown are two examples, they're app. 3 1/2h x 5l x 4w)
sport weight yarn in two colours
crochet hook size F (3.75 mm)
1. Withcol A, ch 8. 3 dc in 4th ch from hook. Dc in next 3 sts, 6 dc in last st.
Working on opposite side of starting ch, dc in 3 sts, 2 dc in same st as beg dcs.
Join to top of ch 3.
2. Ch 3, dc in next st *5 dc in 1 st, dc in 5 sts. 5 dc in 1 st*, dc in 2. Repeat * to *
once more, join to top of ch 3.
3. Ch 3, dc around working 5 dc in centre dc of ea corner.
4. Ch 3, dc around working 5 tr in centre dc of each corner.
5. In back loops for this round: dc around. Join.
6. Dc around. Join, FO col A.
7. Join col B with sl st in blp of any st. Ch 1, sc in blps of same st and in each st
around. Join.
8. Ch 1, sc in same st. (tr in 1 st, sc in next) around. Join, FO.
9. Join col A in any st. Ch 1, sc in same st and in each st around. FO.
10-11. Repeat 7 & 8.
12. Repeat round 9.
13. Repeat round 5. Do not FO.
* at this point, make sure all loose ends are woven in. Insert plastic basket,
working around top rim as you go, and working 2 sts in each corner stitch, ch 1,
sc around, easing crocheted piece to fit basket.
Join, FO.
Handle:
step 1: with col B, ch 42. Sc in 2nd ch from hook (tr in 1 st, sc in next) to end, FO.
2. RS facing, join col A in top of 1st sc, ch 1, (sc in each st, 2 sc in side of last sc)
Repeat () down other side, join, FO.
3. Join B in first sc of side (note: end sts are not worked) ch1, sc in same st. sk 1
st (5 hdc in next st, sk 2 sts) 12 times. 5 hdc in next st, sk 1, sc in last, FO, leaving
8" end for attaching handle to side of basket.
4. Turn handle so right side is still facing, repeat step 3 down opposite side.
Trim: With bottom facing you, join col B in any st, ch 1, sc in each st around.
Join, turn.
2. Ch 2: working in blps only, 4 hdc in same st. (sk 2 sts, 5 hdc in next) around.
Sk last st, join to top of ch 2, FO.
Weave in ends. Using 8" lengths, sew handle edges securely to plastic
basket--NOT to crocheted sts--centred on long sides.
