Similar to my sherbet shells goody bag (also a free pattern), this cover fits around the base of a plastic candy tub, the type found in department and grocery stores. In our area, plastic containers such as this are not recyclable, so this is a wonderful use for them! Use in the bathroom to hold toiletries, in the bedroom to hold hair accessories, change, etc, or in the front foyer to hold keys or letters when you come in.
Materials needed:
App. 1 ½ oz each of two colours worsted weight yarn (I used A=pink, B=white, ww cotton used in the one in pic.
Crochet hook size H (5mm)
plastic candy tub as mentioned above. (app. 3" tall, 7" across)
Notes: Always start rounds of sc with ch1, does NOT count as first st. Start rnds of hdc/dc with ch2/ch3, DOES count as first st.
Rounds are joined.
Guage: First two rounds=2" across.
With A, ch4. Join with sl st in first ch to form ring.
Rnd 1: 10hdc in ring.
Rnd 2: 2hdc in each st around. (20)
Rnd 3: (hdc in 1 st, 2hdc in next) around. (30)
Rnd 4: (Hdc in 2 sts, 2hdc in next around.
Rnd 5: (Hdc in 3 sts, 2hdc in next) around.
Rnd 6: (Hdc in 4 sts, 2hdc in next) around. (60)
Rnd 7: In blps this rnd only, sc around.
Rnd 8: Sc around.
Rnd 9: *sc in 1 st, sk 2 sts, 5dc in next st, sk 2 sts. Repeat from * around. FO pink.
Rnd 10: Join B in any sc. *5dc in sc, sc in centre dc of shell.
Rnd 11: Sl st into centre dc of shell. *sc in centre dc of shell, 5dc in sc. Repeat from * around.
Rnd 12: Repeat rnd 10 from * around. FO.
Rnd 13-15, Join pink in sc. Repeat rnds 10-12, FO.
