| Every now and then, another idea for a 9" doll. Actually, this one is closer to 11"! And finally one for the boys. Jack Frost paints those beautiful etched designs on your windows every winter, and no winter would be complete without him. Change the colours, and he could easily be a Christmas elf. I am hoping to work on a few ammendments so you could make a girl elf with the same overall pattern. Because of the small pieces, this is NOT recommended for children under 3, or for any child who tends to put things in their mouth. |

| finished size: app. 11" Materials: worsted weight yarn, small amounts of (I used): A=flesh, B=blue, C=lilac, D=lt green, E=white small beads for eyes small trims for hat bauble, belt buckle and buttons, or embroider on crochet hook size 3.75mm (F) small amount fibre fill Notes: Always ch1 at beg of sc rows/rounds. Does NOT count as first st. Join at end of each round. Dec: pull up loop in each of next two sts, yo, draw through all 3 loops. DC Dec: leaving last loop of each st on hook, dc in two sts, yo, draw through all 3 lps. With A, ch2, 6sc in 2nd ch from hook. Rnd 2: 2sc in each st around. (12) Rnd 3: (sc in 2 sts, 2sc in next) around. (16) Rnd 4-9: sc around. Rnd 10: (dec, sc in next) around to last 2 sts. Dec. Stuff head firmly. (10) Rnd 11: Sc around, FO col A. Rnd 12: Join B at back in blp. Working in blps only, 2sc in each st around. Rnds 13-20: Sc around. Rnd 21: In blps, sc around. Rnd 22: Sc around. Rnd 23: (dec, sc in next st) around. Dec. (13) Stuff firmly. Rnd 24: Dec around, sc in last. (7) Leaving long end, FO. Weave tail through sts of rnd 24, pull tightly to close and fasten securely. Arms: (make 2) Leave about 6" tail to start, this will attach the arm to the body. With B, ch13. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn.(12) Row 2-5: Sc across. Turn. Leaving 12" tail, FO. Join A in row ends at end without tails. 5sc evenly across. Row 2-4: Sc across, FO, leaving 6" tail for closing. Fold arm in ½ lengthwise. Using matching colour tails, st along length . With end tail of A, weave in and out of sts of hand, pull to close, secure. Sew arms in place at sides at app. rnd 13 with beg tail. Legs: (make 2) With B, ch21. Repeat 1-5 of arms. Row 6: Sc across. Leaving 12" end, FO. Fold leg in ½ lengthwise, using long tail, stitch tog. For foot: Join C at bottom of leg in back. Rnd 7: 7 sc around, join. Rnd 2: Sc around. Row 3: Sc in 3 sts, turn. Row 4&5: Sc in 3 sts, turn. Row 6: Ch2, dc dec next 2 sts tog. Ch1, FO, leaving tail for sewing. Fold toe lengthwise & sew 2 sts along. Then tack remainder to open part of foot. Set aside. Coat trim: With head toward you, join B to left of front centre in free loops of rnd 20. Ch2. 2hdc in next st, (hdc in next 2 sts, 2hdc in next) around. Hdc in last st. DO NOT JOIN, TURN. (28) Row 2: Ch2. (2dc in 1 st, dc in 2) around. Hdc in last st. Turn. (37) Row 3: Sc across, FO. Attach legs to bottom of body. Wrist cuffs: (make 2) With C, ch10. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. (9) FO. Attach to each arm where sleeve and hand join. Boot cuffs: (make 2) With C, ch 15. Dc in 4th ch from hook and across. (13) FO. Attach to leg at top of boot. Belt: With C, ch 25. Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and across. (24) FO. St in place at waist. Scarf: With D, ch 50. Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and across, FO. (49) Work fringe on both ends, tie in knot around neck. Hat: With D, Ch 18, join to form ring. Sc in each st around, join. Rnd 2: (sc in 7 sts, dec) twice. (16) Rnd 3: sc around. Rnd 4: (sc in 6sts, dec) twice. (14) Rnd 5: (sc in 5 sts, dec) twice. (12) Rnd 6-10: Sc around, decreasing 1 st each round. (7sts at end of rnd 10) Rnd 11-13: Sc around. FO at end of rnd 13, leaving 6" tail. Weave in and out of sts of rnd 13, pull tightly to close and fasten securely. For hair: make a fringe around bottom of hat, leaving face area clear. With C, ch 25. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. FO, sew in place at bottom of hat, covering fringe joining. Glue trims to front of coat and to belt buckle, sew bauble to end of hat. Sew beads to face for eyes. |
