Chocolate Cake Keepsafe Box

Materials:
1 margarine container
worsted weight yarn in cake colour
2 (A & B) colours sport weight (dk) yarn
crochet hook size F (3.75mm)

Join at end of each round.  In dc rounds, begin with a ch 3 that counts as first dc.
Popcorn st:  Ch 3, 4dc in same st, drop loop from hook, insert hook in top of ch 3, pull dropped lp through, ch 1 to finish.
With cake colour worsted weight, ch 4, sl st to join.
1.  Ch 1, 10 sc in ring.
2.  Ch 1, 2 sc in each st around.
3.  Ch1.  (sc in 1 st, 2 sc in next) around.
4.  Ch 1 (sc in 2 sts, 2 sc in next) around.
5.  Ch 1, sc around.
6.  Ch 1 (sc in 3 sts, 2 sc in next) around.  (41 sts)
7.  Ch 1, sc around.
8.  Ch 1 (sc in 4 sts, 2 sc in next st) around, end with sc in last st.
9.  *This round is worked in back loops only*  Ch 3, dc in 9 sts (2 dc in 1 st, dc in 10) around, dc in last sts.
10.  In both loops, Dc around.
11.  In back loops, dc around.
12.  Repeat round 10.
13-14.  Repeat rounds 11 & 12.
15.  Dc around, fasten off cake colour.

Top trim:
With col A sport weight and top facing, join yarn in unworked loop at back.  Ch 1, sc in each st around.
Rnd 2.  Work popcorn st.  (sk 2 sts, popcorn in next) around.  Join with sl st in same st as 1st popcorn.  FO.

Side trims:  With top facing, join col B in an unworked loop of rnd 10.  Ch 2, 4 hdc in same st.  (skip 2 sts, sc in next, sk 2 sts, 5 hdc in next) around.  Join to top of ch 2, FO.
Repeat with col A in unworked loops of round 12 for second ruffle.

Bottom trim:  With top facing:
1.  Join A in back loop of round 15 of cake.  Ch 3, 4 dc in same st.  Sk 2 sts, (5 dc in next st, sk2 sts) around.  Join to top of ch 3.  FO.
2.  Join B in 1st unworked loop to left of 1st shell of bottom trim.  sl st in next 2w sts (ch 3, sl st in same st and in next 3 sts) around.  End with ch 3, sl st in same st, join to 1st sl st of round.  FO.
Weave in ends.


This would be a nice gift:  fill the margarine container with little goodies (hair accessories for girls, little cars for boys, candy...).  Just remember, the container will be turned upside down when covered, so I wouldn't advise anything very heavy or breakable.
While discussing a thought about designing a cover for a margarine container, I called it a keepsake box.  My 5 yo mis-heard and called it a 'keepsafe box', which I kinda like the sound of!!
