Fireflies
Two colours, I used white for the 'fireflies'(B) and navy for the background (A), worsted weight yarn. Size G hook gave me a 7" square.
Please note, tensions difer, you may need to change hook size.
Notes: When working into flps of rounds, some yarns will tend to 'pull' and stretch. To help avoid that, when working into the front loop, insert hook through the front loop and through a vertical thread of that same stitch.
When working into flps, you will be working into the round 2 rounds below. For example, when working round 3, you will be working in the unworked flps of round 1.
With colour A, ch 5, slip stitch to join.
Rnd 1: ch 2, 15 hdc in ring, join to top of ch 2. FO col A.
Rnd 2: Join col B with sl st in back loop of any st. Ch1, sc in same back loop. *Tr in both loops of next st, sc in bl of next. Repeat from * around, ending with tr in last stitch, join to 1st sc. FO.
Rnd 3: Join col A in any tr. Ch 2 (counts as hdc) *5 tr in front loop of rnd 2 (corner) hdc in tr, dc in front loop of hdc of round 1. Repeat from * around, end with dc in fl of round 1, join to top of ch2. FO.
Rnd 4: Join col B with sl st in bl of hdc before corner. Ch 1, sc in same space. Tr in both loops of next, sc in bl of next st, *in bl of centre tr, wk (sc, tr, sc) sc in bl of next st, tr in next, sc in bl of next 3, tr in next st, sc in bl of next. Repeat from * around. Join, FO.
Rnd 5: Join col A with sl st in corner tr. Ch3, 4dc in same st. Tr in front loop of round 3. *dc in front lp of prev rnd, hdc in tr, dc in next 3 fls, hdc in tr. Dc in next fl (tr in next front loop, 5 dc in top of tr, tr in same front loop=corner made) Repeat from * around--end with tr in same loop as first tr. FO.
Rnd 6: Work scs in bls only. Join col B in bl of centre dc in corner. Ch1 *(sc,tr,sc) in bl. sc in next 2 sts (tr in next, sc in 3) twice, then tr in next, sc in 2. Repeat from *around. Join to 1st sc. FO.
Rnd 7: Wk as round 5, with extra stitches as needed following (hdc in tr, sc in 3 bls) pattern. DO NOT FO.
Rnd 8: Work this round by inserting hook BACK to FRONT and continuing each stitch as normal. Ch 1, sc in same st and in next. *3 sc in corner. sc in next 6, hdc in 7, sc in 6. Repeat from * around. Join, FO. Weave in ends. (* this round can certainly be worked using sc worked front to back in the 'normal' way)

confetti--plain background, vibrant colour 'spots'.
