Handled Bath Scrubbie
Materials used: worsted weight yarn, bedspread weight cotton
Crochet hook size H (5 mm)
Note: Rnds are worked continuously, do not join. Place marker at beginning
of each rnd. Rnds are worked in back loops only. Piece is made working with
yarn and cotton together.
Rnd 1: ch 2, 6sc in second ch from hook. (rs)
Rnd 2: 2sc in each stitch.
Rnd 3: Sc, 2sc in next stitch around.
Rnd 4: Sc in two, 2sc in next stitch around.
Rnd 5: Sc in three, 2sc in next stitch around.
Rnd 6: Sc in four, 2sc in next stitch around.
Rnd 7: Sc in three, 2sc in next stitch around. Join in back loop.
Start working in rows for handle:
Row 1: Ch1, sc in same stitch and in next 4 stitches. Turn.
Work ch1, sc in same stitch and in next 4 until handle is approximate width of
your hand. End with row on rs.
Join with sl stitch to opposite side of circle, working through both loops of
handle and back loop of circle, sl stitch in next 4 stitches. Join to next back
loop of Rnd 7, finish off.
Now, for the ‘pouff’! Join with sl stitch to first free loop in centre of
circle. Work ch4, sl stitch in next loop around spiral, working in front loops
only of Rnd 7. End with ch4, join and fasten off.
Weave in ends.
You could adapt this to child size using a smaller hook and sport weight yarn,
or by working fewer rounds. They’re fast and easy, and would make a
great gift tucked into a basket of bath products!
