Sherbet Shells Small Bag
Sally Ives, Sept. 2/2003

I designed these drawstring bags for 'goody bags'  for my daughter's birthday party in nice bright colours, and am already thinking of making some in Christmas-y colours for gifts.
Using size F hook and worsted weight yarn, they turn out app. 4" across the base, and about 7" tall.
Thanks go to my daughter's doll who graciously allowed me to use her as a model!
Materials:
worsted weight yarn in 2 colours, about 1 ½  oz of each
crochet hook size F (3.75mm) and size H (5mm), although gauge is not important

Hint: I hate weaving in ends, so instead of fastening off at end of each round, I simply pulled up a loop after joining , dropped that to inside of bag out of the way and started with the next colour.  When picking up dropped loop, sl st into first sc, continue as per directions.
Always join to top of ch at end of rounds unless otherwise specified.  Ch 3 always counts as first dc, ch 1 does NOT count as first sc.

With smaller hook:
Rnd 1:  With col A (neon), ch4, 11 dc in 1st ch. (12)
Rnd 2: Ch3, dc in same st.  2 dc in each st around. (24)
Rnd 3: Ch3, 2dc in next st.  (Dc in one st, 2dc in next) around. (36)
Rnd 4: Ch3, dc in next st.  (2 dc in one st, dc in next 2) around.  2 dc in last st. (48)
Rnd 5: In back loops for this round only, ch1, sc in each st around.
Rnd 6: Ch3, 4 dc in same st.  (sk 2 sts, sc in next.  Sk 2 sts, 5dc in next) around.  End with sk 2 sts, sc in next, sk 2 sts, sl st in top of ch 3.  FO, or pull up loop and drop to inside of bag.
There will be 8 shells on each round.
Rnd 7: Join B(white) in any sc.  Ch3, 4dc in same st.  (sc in centre st of 5dc shell, 5dc in sc between shells) around.  FO or pull up loop and drop to inside of bag.
Rnds 8-12: Repeat rnd 7, alternating colours.  FO colA at end of rnd 12.
Rnd 13:   Join B in sc.  Ch3, dc in next st.  (hdc in next, sc in centre dc, hdc in next, dc in 3 sts) around.  (48 sts)
Rnd 14: Ch3, dc around.
Rnd 15: Ch3, (counts as hdc and ch1).  Sk 1 st.  (hdc in next, CH 1, sk 1 st) around.  Join to 2nd ch of ch 3.
Rnd 16: Ch1, sc in same st and around.  FO B.
Rnd 17: Join A in any st.  Ch2, 4 hdc in same st.  Sk 2 sts (5hdc in next st, sk 2 sts) around.  Join, FO.

For handle:
With larger hook and holding 1 strand of each colour together, ch65, FO.  Weave in and out of ch1 spaces of round 15, fasten ends together securely.
Repeat for other handle, beginning weaving on opposite side of bag.

Please do not post to lists, groups or on other websites, although you are more than welcome to post the link.  As with my other patterns, if you make several up, I have no problem with selling the finished item at a craft sale, as long as you do not claim the pattern as your own.
