| For this square, I used a G hook and worsted weight yarn to get a 7" square. The square's colours did not come through properly in the scan at all, I used: Colour A=light plum Colour B=buff (or use colours of your choice.) Rnd 1: ch 21. sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 10 chs. *Ch 11, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 10 chs. Repeat from * 2 more times, sc in unworked 10 chs. Rnd 2: *Ch 2, join with sl st in opposite side of arm. Ch 3, dc in next 4 sts, hdc in 3, sc in next. Sc next 2 sts together (yo, insert hook in next st, pull up look 2 times, yo, pull through 3 lps). Sc in next st, hdc in 3 sc, dc in next 4. Ch 3, sl st in last st. Repeat from * around. End with ch3, sl st in last st. FO col A. Rnd 3: This round is worked in ch spaces and in back loops only of stitches. Join col B with sl st in ch 2 at end of any arm. Ch1, (sc, ch2, sc) in same space. 3sc in ch3 space, sc in next 7 sts, sc next 3 tog. sc in 7, 3 sc in ch3 space. (sc, ch2, sc) in ch2 space. Repeat from * around, join to 1st sc. Rnd 4: Sl st into ch 2 space. Ch1, sc in space. * Ch 2, sk 1 stitch, sc in 3 stitches. Hdc in 3, dc in next 3. Leaving last loop on hook, tr in next 3 sts, yo, draw through all 4 lps. Dc in 3 sc, hdc in next 3, sc in next 3. Ch2, sk 1 stitch, sc in ch 2 space. Repeat from * around, join to first sc. Rnd 5: Sl stitch into ch2 space. Ch1, sc in same sp. *sc in next 4, hdc in 2, dc in 2. Skip next 3 sc, 2 dc, 2 hdc, 4 sc across to next ch 2 space. Sc in space, sl st in sc, sc in next ch2 space. Repeat from * around, ending with sl st in joining st of rnd 4. Sl st in 1st sc. FO col B. Rnd 6: Join col A with sl st on any side in space between DC's. Ch 3, hdc in next st, sc in following 8 sts. 3 sc in sl st in corner. Sc in 8 sts, hdc in next, and dc in space between dc. Repeat from * around, ending with sc in 8 sts, hdc in next, join to top of ch 3. FO col A, weave in ends. I am currently working on an 'O' square to match this one. I got to thinking of a tic-tac-toe afghan done in bright colours. |
